Wentworth’s Unique Design and Construction Drawings Process

A professional design/build remodeling company, with in-house architectural staff like Wentworth, provides a design phase and construction drawings phase (sometimes called construction documents) that precedes the construction contract, permit, and construction phases. The process may be similar across different companies, but Wentworth’s design process is thorough and comprehensive, providing what many remodelers do not: detailed plans and specifications for product selections and finishes prior to construction.

Our Unique Process

As part of the Wentworth architectural process—after a design is selected and before a construction agreement is signed—the Wentworth team, along with the client, makes product and finish selections for the project. All of the materials, products, and finishes are carefully documented in what architects called “schedules” (others might call them spreadsheets). This careful documentation not only allows for faster timelines with ordering for construction and project completion, but also provides the client the benefit of a fixed-price construction contract. Many design/build companies tell clients they can choose the finishes after construction has commenced, which can create delays in construction and cause the project to go over the budget. Wentworth’s design and construction drawings process, on the other hand, ensures there will never be hidden costs or surprises. Once construction drawings are finished and the estimate is completed, you’ll know exactly what is included and how much the project costs. Product orders are placed shortly after a construction contract is signed to avoid delays caused by long-lead items.

What Is Included?

The design and construction drawings process is very extensive with the product and finish selections. It includes everything, from plumbing fixtures (faucets, sinks, etc.) and appliances to tiles, lighting fixtures, cabinets, and more. Every aspect is planned for—material, manufacturer/brand, color, etc.

Here are examples of the details covered:

Cabinetry Finish Plans

Lighting Fixture Finish Plans

Tile & Stone Work Finish Plans

These plans were part of a two-story Tudor home addition project we completed in Northwest DC.
