First-Floor Remodel in McLean, VA

The Wentworth team is nearly done with a first-floor remodel for a family in McLean, Virginia. Our remodeling work includes the kitchen, family room, and mud room of a single-family, detached house built in 1998.

Project Details

Additional windows were installed in the kitchen to improve light and the view of the rear garden. Originally a one-step-down family room, the wood floor was raised to make it contiguous with the kitchen and informal dining area, which improved furniture layout and flexibility of the space—and also eliminated a tripping hazard. A custom built-in was created below the back staircase of the family room for TV and storage. The oversized master suite was reconfigured to be more efficient. A new suite entry vestibule was created with a built-in dresser, a new walk-in closet was created from wasted space, and a new laundry room was designed with hall access. The old master bathroom was removed and reconfigured to be more efficient and beautiful.

Home remodeling is not usually a quick process—but the end result is well worth the wait! Although not always glamourous, the construction phase is important and can show insights into how a design build firm works.

Here is a look at the “journey” through the cabinet construction for this project, showcasing the work of our skilled carpentry team.
