Garden Architecture as Part of Holistic Home Remodeling
When remodeling your home, it’s important to consider both the interior and exterior and take a “holistic” approach. Incorporate the garden, exterior architecture, and interior as a unified whole. Let the three different components complement each other and blend together in an integrated design. Not only will this provide for a seamless remodel but it will allow you to personalize your home.
Part of taking a holistic approach is a thoughtful landscape design and “bringing the outdoors indoors” (a frequently used expressions by homeowners about remodeling). This can be achieved through the use of large windows, glass doors, porches, patios and decks. A seamless connection between the interior and the garden expands the sense of living space—not to mention, a garden view can make a home more relaxing.
Using Large-Scale Pots in the Garden
A simple way to create a focal point and enhance the sense of space within a garden is with a large-scale pot. An all-weather pot is an attractive feature, even in the winter. Placing a large-scale pot at a good distance from the preferred viewing point draws the eye out to expand the depth of the garden. The viewer’s eye settles on the pot—and slowly moves through the landscape to view the plantings.
A home can be of modest scale and humble architecture—and if it is set within a well landscaped garden, it will have more presence and market value.
Real-Life Examples of Large Garden Pots
Here are a couple examples of large-scale pots I have admired over the years.
- Thuya Garden in the Bar Harbor region of Maine: A home can be of modest scale and humble architecture—and if it is set within a well landscaped garden, it will have more presence and market value. Here is an example of a garden with a large-scale garden pot I have admired over the years, as well as a large-scale pot fabricator.
- Lunaform: For those in the market for newer pots that hold up to cold temperatures, visit this site. Lunaform (a Maine company) designs and builds large-scale garden pots of concrete and reinforced steel rod that endure the cold winters. Ideally, a pot should be scaled to the garden and large enough to be worthy of a garden focal point.
